About The Endowment Fund

Our Ambition
Our goal in establishing the John Nohos Endowment Fund is to honor his commitment to education. This fund will provide financial support now and in perpetuity for gifted students to attend ACS Beirut who otherwise couldn't afford it. Our goal is to raise funds that enable talented children to access quality education and reach their full potential.
By pledging your support to the John Nohos Endowment Fund, you are directly impacting the lives of bright and deserving students from disadvantaged backgrounds in Lebanon for many years to come.
US$ 43,000 pledged so far – thank you for your support!
In Memory of John Nohos
An Outstanding Educator. A True And Unwavering Friend.
John Nohos was born in Beirut in 1969 to Greek parents and became part of the ACS community when he joined as a student at the age of 6. Despite the turmoil in Beirut that twice led him to be evacuated to Athens, John spent nearly all his school years at ACS, graduating with the class of 1988.
After studying in Athens and starting a career as a stockbroker, John returned to ACS to teach middle school social studies from 1993 to 1997, and it was during these years that he became a Lebanese citizen. Although he took a short break to manage the Facilities & Operations Department, John’s heart was always in the classroom, where he found his greatest joy with his students. In 2009, he went back to teaching social studies in middle school — a role that became his true calling.
John was more than just a teacher; he was a beloved member of the ACS family. Teachers, staff, custodians, and guards alike respected him for his warmth, kindness, and unwavering dedication to the school. He was admired for his generosity of spirit and his belief in making ACS accessible to talented students from all backgrounds.
He touched the lives of so many, and his legacy as a cherished middle school social studies teacher will always be remembered.

What making a pledge means?
A Commitment to Help
By pledging your donation, you are confirming your intention of providing the stated funds once the endowment fund is set up.

Who will manage this endowed fund?
Highest Level of Transparency and Accountability
Once we have gathered enough pledges to provide meaningful financial support to a child to attend ACS Beirut, arrangements will be made for the endowment fund to be set up and for donation payment to be wired. We will reach out to you with more information.
Until then, no payments are required.
How will the students be chosen?
Care and Consideration
Details of student eligibility criteria and the selection process along with other important considerations will be developed in tandem with ACS Beirut.
What we can confirm is that the students will be based in Lebanon, be gifted, and be from a financially impoverished background.
Once the endowed fund is set up, full details will be shared with all donors.

A society grows great when people plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.
Behind this initiative
We’ve come together to honor a remarkable man. Our friend John.
We are reaching out to donors we each know personally - and many of whom knew John - to ask for their financial support and for their help in spreading the word about this initiative.
Our goal is to get enough pledges to cover the entire annual tuition of a deserving child at ACS Beirut through this endowment fund - every year - in perpetuity.
Every little bit counts - so please pledge if you can.
Thank you!
